Instrumental Analysis Center – Fuman Faculty of Engineering

The Instrumental Analysis Center at the Fuman Faculty of Engineering was established in early 2015 with the aim of facilitating centralized access to advanced analytical devices. The center collaborates with faculty members, graduate students, and researchers from Tehran University and other universities, offering consultations for conducting various experiments. The center also organizes workshops and provides quality control and research and development services for industries in the Gilan province.

Laboratory Devices:

- Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS): Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy is used to measure the concentration of metal species in trace amounts (ppb and ppm) in samples. It is the standard method for controlling industrial products in terms of their elemental composition. AAS can measure approximately 30 elements, including Au, Se, Ni, Ba, Al, Hg, Pb, Sb, Sn, Si, Co, Fe, Mg, Cd, Li, Bi, Cu, Cr, Zn, and Mn.

- High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC): HPLC is a widely used separation technique that is increasingly applied in various scientific and industrial fields due to its high sensitivity and quick adaptability for accurate quantitative measurements. It is especially useful for separating and identifying polar compounds that are soluble in water and alcohol.

- Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS): GC-MS is used for the separation and quantification of volatile compounds in trace amounts. GC is used to separate the components, and MS is used to identify the nature of the compounds. It is commonly applied in pharmaceuticals, toxicology, chemistry, medicine, food industries, herbal medicine, and forensic science.

- Head-Space Gas Chromatography: This technique allows for the separation and analysis of volatile substances without altering their structure. The gas phase, typically using an inert gas like helium, nitrogen, argon, or carbon dioxide, moves the sample components through the column for separation.
